I just love this game... I'm sure many of you do too. Any beer-garden player?

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

beer-garden? lol.. never head or that server.. Probably because the servers in my top-ping list are from the EU.  I liked to play on =ubu= , their used to be good players and a good atmosphere but lately the server is always empty sad

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

I play on the Alpha servers almost exclusively, and occasionally the 30+R ctf (though I've decided ctf is too camp heavy for my tastes in UrT).

I tried the Beer Garden but got a bit put off by an admin or two on it that seem to be far too over sensitive & kick for what is (apparently to me) no good reason or act like complete idiots towards some players.

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

Lately I've been enjoying BLR's team deathmatch server. Oh, and we should definitely have a tag, for example right now I'm "arch> elmer_42".

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

I LOVE Urban Terror..... I use the same name as I do here, and usually play on the Paladin, Alpha, or Dallas servers. TDM & CTF mostly.

Can you all post your UT screen names, so I'll know you if I see you.

BTW, I don't follow the rule and ALWAYS play Blue.... It's kind of an ocd/ logic type thing. Red is the color of blood. One sees red when they are in a rage. Bullseyes are red..... etc. etc.

hey you're like me, I like to play as blue too! My screen name is always the same.

seems like Team Deathmatch is the most popular style. Anyone play or know what bomb mode is?

Bomb mode -> red ones must try to plant bomb without getting killed, and make sure the blue ones don't defuse it before the timer runs out.
If bomb goes 'boom' red wins (or all blue ones are killed).  I prefer bomb mode over anything else.  I think DM actually is quite boring.

Urban Terror was _the_ reason for me to finally delete all windows partitions and make clean arch install smile

I was big Day of Defeat and Counter Strike addict but Urban Terror makes good native Linux substitution.

Nice thread I just started. Everyting works great except that the audio is being played by my systemspeaker, wich naturally makes it crap. Any ideas? Awecourse the audio in other applications work great.

I am to believe you are meaning urban terror's sound get routed to the pc speaker. Just disable the speaker

If you do not want snd_pcsp to load at all you can add the following to

/etc/rc.conf

MODULES=(... !snd_pcsp)

And now back to more interviews of urban terror players telling us why it rocks their socks.

Just instead of starting it with 'io...' (can't look for command now but you know what I mean), use 'aoss io...'. Aoss makes apps that behave badly and want to take sound for themselves to use proper sound mixing. Let me know if this helped.

Playing without sound is terrible solution.

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

It was the only game I played for a long, long time (years)!  I haven't played for a few months though.  Great game, thanks for reminding me about it.  I'm going to have to dust off my mouse.  smile

Anyone know a way to disable keyboard grab?

Even when I run in windowed instead of fullscreen I can't control the window manager.

Re: Urban Terror players speak~!

OK I did it! I think this is quite useful so I will document it here:

I was a bit disheartened seeing a post ignored on the UT forums link, but then I saw a good idea here link, about patching SDL.

What follows is how to do it the dirty way, if you are good at ABS and writing patches you can probably do better:

get sdl source link
extract
cd SDL-*/src/video/x11
vim SDL_x11wm.c
in the function X11_GrabInputNoLock on line 327:
comment the lines that call the Xorg keyboard grab: (363, 364)
cd ../../..
./configure --prefix=$HOME/mysdl --enable-alsa --with-x --disable-rpath #maybe other stuff, check --help and arch's defaults
make
make install
pacman -Rd sdl
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/mysdl/lib
urbanterror

Also in error I tried to comment stuff in SDL_video.c and this also disables mouse grabbing. This makes FPS unplayable, but here is how to do that anyway:

cd SDL-*/src/video
vim SDL_video.c
in the funtion SDL_WM_GrabInputRaw on line 1803:
comment everything that seems to do something (lines 1819, 1823, 1827, 1829)

I love UrbanTerror, although I don't play it nearly as often as I used to(going through a "phase"...yeah). Actually, BG is my favorite server on there(and on any game where there are BG servers, for that matter...*man* I miss BG Tremulous).
