es1896 non isapnp chip ....[solved-bypassed alsaconf still broken]

Edit:
continued my modprobing efforts... manually set the values in the BIOS (why didn't i think it that first) and it worked like a charm

sorry to bother ... move along nothting to see here (except a still massivly broken ALSA which i believe to be changes in how /sys/bus/devices/pnp is populated ... as in it isn't at all on my system)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have tried modprobing the chip manually and even unloading snd-pcsp beforehand

tried
modprobe isapnp=0 port=0x220 mpu_port=0x330 dma1=1 dma2=0 irq=9

tried dma2= 0 1 3 and 5
tried irq= 5 and 9

I wrote a script that brings down alsa unloads the modules reloads the modules then brings back up alsa .... and just changed the modpobe line for each test as I assume it shouldn't require  a reboot

alsa seems to not detect the correct settings at all and unless i explicitly tell it to probe es18xx it will choose whatever comes first

also I noticed when alsa attempts to detect the chip there are errors like the following
Probing es18xxgrep:grep: /sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses No such file oor directory
/sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses: No such file or directory
/sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses: No such file or directory
/sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses: No such file or directory
/sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses: No such file or directory
/sys/bus/pnp/devices??:*/resourses: No such file or directory
: FOUND!

has the /sys/bus/pnp/devices interface changed?

also at one point i was getting short looping audio but have not been able to reproduce this

also I tried OSS4 but have no experience with it... it would be fine by if i ended up using it whatever i can get working

BTW this is on a compac presario 1810 with 64mb ram LXDE rules!!! .. works fine for the web with midori and an atheos 5112 but getting sound working again would be really nice (I have had verious versions of puppy linux working with sound even up to at least kernel 2.6.22 iirc)

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help :-)
