I have Synaptics installed on xorg server 1.5.3, and everything works except tapping to click.
I added these lines to xorg.conf in the synaptics InputDevice section
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "TapButton2" "2"
Option "TapButton3" "3"
And it doesn't help me.

Okay, I found the problem. It worked in Linux 2.6.27, but when I upgraded to 2.6.28 it broke it.
I wonder if it's just a bug in the Arch Linux build, or if I could compile it myself and see if it works.

I'm having the same problem. I know there were changes to the touchpad driver in 2.6.28 (that were supposed to make it work better with the synaptics Xorg driver, oddly enough.) Did you solve this?

It does work on my EEE900. I use the kernel-eee package, as described in the wiki page above. Perhaps you have a broken module?

Are you sure its loading the synaptics driver? It may have fallen back to evdev. Check 'lshal' to see what driver it loads for the touchpad.
