makepkg and distcc [Partially solved]

I followed instructions on the distcc wiki.  But when I do makepkg trying to build a kernel, I get this warning:
distcc[1191] (dcc_get_hostlist) Warning: no hostlist is set; can't distribute work

I double checked and my hosts are set:
DISTCC_HOSTS='192.168.0.40 192.168.0.2'
I must be missing somehting.

EDIT
Makepkg.conf of course must include DIST_HOSTS...
The build fails though
