Where are all the Vi-File Managers?

The day I first encountered the word "Vi", I figured it was the name of some sort of mythical beast from the ancient times. I initiated a search on Google. Of course, the first page that I click is the Wikipedia page. As soon as I laid my eyes on the screenshot, I was completely dazzled! What was this thing, so simple and yet so beautiful? Turns out, it ain't no beast after all! I had to find out more about this "Vi"-thing... I kept on reading, it seemed so amazing! Word after word I read about it. It was... So... Good... With my shaking hands, I opened a terminal window, and entered the two magic characters. The feeling was getting stronger every minute, but I had to resist the urge to go nuts. Moments later I was able to hit the return-key. Instantaneously, it appeared on the screen. The whole room lit up, and a choir of angels appeared behind me, chanting incredible tunes and I felt as if God himself had infused me with incredible powers. This was something unheard of! It was so elegant, so pure, so awesome! I was completely frozen, but I was soon able to shake out of it. The feeling was unbearable, I had spent so long of my life without this awesome piece of software that had to be a figment of my imagination! And then I was overcome with joy!

Ever since then, I have laughed at the infidels that call some piece of junk a "text editor". There can only be one true text editor! Any software that doesn't work like The One is simply bad - laughable, an abomination!

Vimperator turned the browser they call Firefox into something awesome, it is truly amazing.

But, one day at a terminal, I asked myself: "where is the Vi file manager? Surely there must be such a thing!" Google, like usual, gave me many results. Most were useless. But it seems there is hope after all! http://vifm.sourceforge.net/ The only thing is, it seems to still be in alpha. And only one developer, what an outrage!

It's not even in the repos sad Does anyone use it?

You can actually use Vim as a file manager, I guess you already knew that...

Wow, I missed that. Sweet.

Even though I could have easily built it by myself as well...

E: it seems to be pretty barebones for now, atleast comparing to the MC.

Nice story-writing, feel just the same smile You should check out vimExplorer (file manager script for vim). I just installed it, seems great. It has a nice bookmark solution and lots of convenient keyboard-shortcuts. It also asks you for confirmation when deleting files (vifm doesn't, a bit risky).

Yeah I found this one earlier myself as well. It's certainly nice.

I guess it concludes my search... But it seems file managers aren't my thing in any case. Sure, they are nice when you want to get a nice overall image of a directory, but for general file management... The shell is awesome.
