bitsetting/booktype

I'm trying to burn a disc image to a dvd+r, but I need to need to change the booktype to dvd-rom. I've tried using dvd+rw-booktype, but I keep getting this error:

sudo dvd+rw-booktype -dvd-rom -unit+r /dev/dvd
:-[ BTC_FAh[3] failed with SK=5h/INVALID FIELD IN CDB]: Input/output error

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I have a Pioneer drive with (as far as I know) the latest firmware. I'll take a look again to see if there has been a newer release.

Is there a burning program (or commandline with growisofs) that will change the booktype of the disc while burning?
