i wanted to see how a pppoe server works, so i got the rp-pppoe package using pacman (x86_64), ran it and configured (as much as i thought) and ran it
i m using arch in a vmware environment , as well as an xp machine. the pppoe server is running, i used the xp machine to create a pppoe connection, the connection starts, it connects, but stucks at Verifying Username and Password, i checked out the /var/log/messages.log file

no matter how many times i try, it doesnt move forward from that step, anyone have ideas. note that i m only using it to learn about pppoe etc, its not for any production use or anything. i m using this command to start the server
pppoe-server -I eth1 -L 192.168.1.1 -p /etc/ppp/ip-pool
ip pool is from 192.168.1.2-60
