[QUESTION ANSWERED - NO] Openbox + Emerald?

I know it is likely a stupid question, but is it possible to have emerald run the decorations for OpenBox directly? I found an emerald theme (minimal-thin from Gnome-look.org) that I would like to use. It can be found here... http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … tent=62587

What I like about it is that the bar vanishes when not in focus, ill the mouse moves over it. Oh, and hte little dots are kinda neat.

Or, failing the emerald decorator, has anyone seen anything relatively similar in look? Very thin, and extremely simplistic?

No, they're both window managers. You could try looking around box-look for a good openbox theme.

Re: [QUESTION ANSWERED - NO] Openbox + Emerald?

This probably won't help much, but there is something similar (thin, simplistic, and even with the dots)... I just don't  have it installed anymore nor do I have the faintest idea of what it was called. I'm fairly certain that I found it on either box-look or gnome-look (bundled with some gtk theme maybe). I probably found it by searching for "dark" or "black".

Take a look at the openbox wiki... it might be possible to toggle the decorations on mouse-in and mouse-out, but I think it's limited to raising/focusing windows and might not be configurable beyond enabling it.

Re: [QUESTION ANSWERED - NO] Openbox + Emerald?

Thanks guys, or gals as the case may be!

I had a feeling it would not work. I will take a look at the themes shortly, unfortunately it is late here and I need to sleep.

I will probably be posting a bunch of questions as I learn OpenBox, but I have the wiki, OpenBox's site, and documentation to help out. I saw in the wiki that the themes are well documented, so if I don't find what I want, I bet'cha I can make it.

P.S. That black version with dots is pretty much exactly like Minimal-thin for Emerald. (sans the light opacity)

Re: [QUESTION ANSWERED - NO] Openbox + Emerald?

Urukrama's Openbox guide is the thing that got me started, an awesome complete howto:
http://urukrama.wordpress.com/openbox-guide/

He's got a good writeup on PyPanel as well:
http://urukrama.wordpress.com/2008/05/3 … anel-tips/
including a cool dzen2 calendar, I've put a slightly revised version in the comments

Under PyPanel, I use this tip:
http://crunchbang.org/archives/2008/03/ … h-xdotool/
to open the Openbox root-menu with a button1 on the desktop name, this makes a fake "start menu" sort of thing.

And yes, OpenBox's theme structure is very well documented
http://icculus.org/openbox/index.php/Help:Themes
Have a look through a few themes on box-look and see cool tricks you can do, like use * to address a bunch of parent properties.

Welcome aboard smile
