Filesystem check failed[SOLVED]

Hi everyone,

I had a desktop computer at my house it has a x86_64 Arch installed...Now I can't seem to use it anymore...
My system only reaches the kernel load mainly the file system check and then no more DE or whatsoever...:(

Here is where it stops:

/dev/sda6: Reiserfs super block in block 16 on /dev/sda6 of format 3.6 with standard journal
Blocks (total/free): 3662800/3378379 by 4096 bytes
Filesystem is clean
/dev/sda7: clean, 15968/917504 files, 96633/3662812 blocks
/dev/sda3: clean, 35,8032, 14125/32128 blocks
                                    [FAIL]

FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED

Re: Filesystem check failed[SOLVED]

It states very clearly that "FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED", so you need to fix the filesystem on /dev/sda3. You can do this with a live CD that includes the appropriate utilities for that filesystem.

General forum advice: please post a more specific title on your threads. The title should summarise the issue - "System not working anymore" does not.

Re: Filesystem check failed[SOLVED]

I'm sorry for a not effective title, I've changed it now...:)

I did boot using the arch installer...

I checked all my partitions using "fsck", but after reboot the same error appears again...

Re: Filesystem check failed[SOLVED]

In such a case I would run memtest to make sure RAM isn't damaged.

It could also be symptoms of other hardware issues like:
- hard drive is soon to crasch
- chipset or some other component on the motherboard is damaged

Most encounter a bad hard-drive, but I've got only experience of the last scenario (computers could run memtest and Prime without errors but did "go crazy" in use with an attached hard drive).

Just a thought

I dual booted Xp and Arch on my system, my Xp still works perfectly so no hardware fault at all....Are there any misconfigurations I made that caused this?  I may reinstall then...

You are just repeating what happens at boot-time, so it's not surprising that the results are the same. As previously advised, boot your system with a recent live CD, and use the appropriate utilities for the filesystem on /dev/sda3 to locate the problem.

Re: Filesystem check failed[SOLVED]

I've checked my fstab just like on the other posts suggested and it seems that my /var has a wrong partition number...I've changed it to the approriate number and now I can boot once again...
This happened because I've deleted some partitions..

big_smile

Thanks to all
