Is GDM the best choise to get a GUI logonscreen to Openbox?
When reading the wiki it says use GDM if using Gnome or KDE...

Re: GDM and Openbox?

You can use whatever login manager you want.
If you want less dependencies, you can get SLIM login manager.

Like he said, you can use slim.  I think slim is a buggy piece of crap, though.  GDM and KDM are both great, but if you REALLY want to avoid dependencies... you could just log in at terminal.  It's only one more thing to type to get into a GUI.

Re: GDM and Openbox?

Btw, if you don't want a login manager, but you're too lazy to type in startx everytime, you can add this to your /etc/inittab to auto-login:

x:5:once:/bin/su yourusername -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c startx >/dev/null 2>&1"

And make sure to uncomment #id:5:initdefault: and comment out id:3:initdefault:
