Upgraded P3 CPU, does Arch need updating ?

Hello Archers

I have an old pentium 3 system running a fully up to date Arch OS, and I have just changed my 866mhz P3 for a 1ghz P3.

Arch starts up fine and there are no apparent problems.

Should I update the kernel etc in anyway to get the full benefits of the new cpu ? or is this automatically done ?

Many thanks

No I believe the Kernel automatically compensates for the change in cpu speed.

Re: Upgraded P3 CPU, does Arch need updating ?

Since it's a P!!! to P!!! upgrade, except for maybe more/less cache and another FSB speed/multiplier, nothing changes for the OS. The kernel is compiled for a generic system anyway, with support for i686 CPUs and up, and a P!!! is well above that.
