laptop power managers

what are some decent power managers out there? i am using openbox if that helps.

I have never tried laptop-mode-tools, if it is well behaved then its a good choice, otherwise you can manage it yourself by creating a simple script to change things for you (you might overlook a few thing thought but it will be fun ).
One of the things to lookout for is HD power management as it can give unusual high levels of wear to the HD, apart from that anything you can turn off or reduce power / speed and still keep your PC going is worth a try.

Powertop is not properly a power manager since it gives you only suggestion about saving watts, but it doesn't save power in a systematic way.

guidance-power-manager would be a good choice if it was only a Qt4 app... but unfortunetally it initializes the whole KDE4 subsystems.. I don't think there's a real need for the KDE4 dependency, but thats it
