E17 or KDEMod3?

I like these two desktop environments...but I have no idea which one I like better...I'm clueless with which one to stick. Anyone got suggestions?

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Well, with KDEMod3, I can do much of my basic math stuff since I made a packet of the PCLOS addons for Kicker in the upper right hand corner. I still need the color picker to get working though. And I just got it done looking purty.

As for E17, I've tried it and it was great as well...although I could not find a calculator applet for the shelf. I also need to find a substitute for yakuake if I want to use that. File management was sort of awkward though.

Why do you want the community to 'paint your walls'?  Just use standalone Openbox or a tiling window manager like all the other smart people.  That's my suggestion.

Maybe this works for you (not tested btw) :

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Why not keep them both and set up a second user that defaults to one, while the main user defaults to the other? I used to do that with gnome and E17, till I moved on to one of the *Boxes. (OpenBox, if you really want to know.)

The *Boxes take a hell of a lot longer to set up the first couple of times, but after it is set, tweaked, and prettified, they are more functional. (besides, tint2 as a panel is  what first made me want to try out OpenBox, and I can't say that I am disappointed in my choice.)

I keep getting distracted from my webserver project...

huh? oooh...  shiny!

Well, I like the apps KDE has, but I don't like the fact that KDM keeps freezing on me when I turn my PC on. Entranced hasn't done that to me so far.

That's not accurate at all. Your window manager does not tell people whether you're 'smart' or not

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

It just tells whether you like WMs only or not. Well, I'd like to say I like a DE/WM that's easy to set up, looks purty, is light, and whose Login manager doesn't keep freezing for no reason.

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

I'd go with e17-svn from community. kde is too disconnected from the rest of the linux world for me.

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Okay. I'll go with both for now and then dump the one that I like less.

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Pick whichever one feels most intuitive and natural. A good DE/WM fades into the background and doesn't draw attention to itself, so you can get work done.

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Okay. I picked KDEMod. Now to do something about the somewhat freezing login manager.

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Replace it with GDM, Entrance (E17's login manager), XDM? Not use a login manager altogether (various ways to do this, there was a thread a little while ago, like for instance setting one console to automatically start X on login)?

Re: E17 or KDEMod3?

Doesn't entrance require the whole e17 kaboodle?
