GNOME & Nautilus doesn't automount Cds or DVDs

Hi, i'm a beginner in arch world, and i'm having troubles with the cds and dvds to automount them in nautilus.

I don't know why, but if i put any cd or dvd in the cd-rom, nautilus doesn't recognize it. the only way i've found to be able tu see or use them is writing this command into a terminal:

sudo mount /dev/sr0 -t iso9660 -r /media/cdrom

but, in the other way, if a turn on the PC with the CD or DVD inside it, Arch recognize it perfectly!. so, i don't understand :S
At the beginning i thought there was a problem with HAL, but my pendrives, USB-keys and my MP3 players works well and they are perfectly recognized and automounted.

Looking into the web, i red that i should use the command dmesg and into that info i should look for a hdc or sdc line, but i coulnd't find anything like that. But the dnesg said that the sd drivers need to be updated. but i don't know how to do it. (i tried pacman -Syu, it it wasn't any update)

here i left a copy of the dmesg, maybe it could be useful:

Re: GNOME & Nautilus doesn't automount Cds or DVDs

install gnome-volume-manager:

pacman -Sy gnome-volume-manager

Now add yourself to the storage group:

gpasswd -a your_user storage

from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/FAQ … mething.3F

Should work fine then , it did for me :-)

Re: GNOME & Nautilus doesn't automount Cds or DVDs

see http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12221

you should use hal from testing and gdm or kdm login manager. in comments you'll found others fixes if you don't use those login managers

Re: GNOME & Nautilus doesn't automount Cds or DVDs

check that there are no references to /dev/cdrom, /dev/dvd etc in /etc/fstab, hal only manages devices that are not present in /etc/fstab

Re: GNOME & Nautilus doesn't automount Cds or DVDs

hi,
i have a simular problem... alsa a arch noob...
When i connect a usb-drive or cd, than there is no icon displayed in nautilus/desktop to mount it, nor is there a question asked what to do.

I already tried the gnome-volume-manager thingy and added myself to the storage group, but it doesn't help...

It seems that the issue is nautilus and gnome specific, and it doesn't seem to be a hal problem, because thunar recognises the drives (both usb and cd's)

only thing i didn't try is the hal from testing thing... but i'm not shure how i must do that...

any ideas

thx...
UPDATE:
I recently also installed arch on my laptop, and here, there are no problems mounting usb-devices.
same version of hal gamin gnome gnome-volume-manager, etc.

when i insert a usb on my desktop /var/log/everything.log gives:

Feb  7 20:07:44 athuin sd 8:0:0:0: [sdc] 15663104 512-byte hardware sectors: (8.01 GB/7.46 GiB)

Feb  7 20:07:44 athuin sd 8:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0
Feb  7 20:07:44 athuin usb-storage: device scan complete

so hal recognises it owkei, when i mount the usb-drive with thunar it gives

Feb  7 20:08:53 athuin hald: mounted /dev/sdc1 on behalf of uid 1000

than it opens a window in thunar AND in nautilus....
so than it works...
hope this helps....
i don't get it, i've added myself to the same groups as on the laptop, have the same things to startup in session  ...
