Strange sound problem

Hello
I re-installed Arch today, like I do so many times, but this time I can't get my sound to work.
Every time I try to play some sound the programme I use seems to be frozen. Alsamixer works without any problem though.

[iisjmii@myhost asound]$ /dev/urandom > /dev/audio
bash: /dev/audio: Device or resource busy

but:

fuser /dev/audio -v

gives nothing.

[iisjmii@myhost asound]$ cat /proc/asound/cards 
 0 [pcsp           ]: PC-Speaker - pcsp
                      Internal PC-Speaker at port 0x61
 1 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
                      HDA NVidia at 0xdddf8000 irq 11

Does anybody have a solution?
