browsing directory with RAW files

Is there any way to browse directory with RAW files? I can use dcraw, ufraw or rawstudio to work on single file, but how to find the file I want in directory with more than 100 RAWs?

Re: browsing directory with RAW files

I use rawtherapee for most of my photo editing needs.  (Not that I have an especially high skill level.)  It provides, among other things, a browser interface for moving through your files.  It looks like AUR still has version 2.3 -- I suggest the beta instead, which is available for x86_64 or x86 right from www.rawtherapee.com -- IME it's been very stable, and it contains many, many bugfixes and interface/workflow improvements over the current "release" version.

I haven't broadly sampled a bunch of different apps, but I've been very happy with it.

No installation is required, just extract to the directory of your choice and execute "rt" to run it.

To get it working on Arch, I did have to do this step first, as noted in the comments in AUR:

As root run "gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/THEME" for the Icon-THEME you are using and rawtherapee starts nicely.

If you try running it without first doing that, and it fails to start up, check to see whether you need to kill the "rt" process before trying again.

I've been using it since 2.3 was first released (IIRC) and have used it under Ubuntu and openSUSE successfully, in addition to Arch, both x86 and x86_64.

Re: browsing directory with RAW files

Did you "As root run "gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/THEME" for the Icon-THEME you are using" before running it as noted in the AUR comments and also http://www.rawtherapee.com/forum/viewto … =5805#5805 ?

(That thread about segfaults at the RT forum is almost entirely Arch users)

Also, it's your decision of course, but I really think you'll be happier with the current 2.4 beta than with 2.3....  Download 32 or 64 bit as appropriate from here: http://www.rawtherapee.com/?mitem=3&artid=35, extract to /home/you/wherever, then do as noted above, then run "rt".

You may need to delete /home/you/.config/RawTherapee first since you've tried running it.  (I did before running the icon cache thing and restarting, but not sure if it would be required.)

Re: browsing directory with RAW files

I have found it easiest to just shoot in RAW + SQ (smallest jpg settings) on my Olympus Evolt E-510.  That way I can use any viewer to see the images quickly.  The thumbnail creator for the RAW files doesn't seem to create them until after you have opened the files in a RAW editor, so you can't just see the thumbs in your file browser.

Re: browsing directory with RAW files

I found why geeqie doesn't work - there is very old version of exiv2 in Arch Linux, the new version contains fix for this:

Error: Directory Olympus with 18761 entries considered invalid; not read.

Let's hope that package maintainer will update exiv2 soon....

Re: browsing directory with RAW files

Could you tell me how to edit given photo from Digikam in Gimp or ufraw? When I click "edit" it opens "showphoto" which can't open my RAW file (probably because exiv2 bug). How to edit it in something else? Digikam interface is very counter-intuitive to me.

The only solution I found is to display filename in the Digikam, then open Gimp/urfaw manually with this filename.

It seems that your copy of UFRaw was built without the GtkImageView
library. Rebuild it with GtkImageView (or complain to to you
distribution
).

how nice of them hmm
