Please help me. I can't D/L Arch Linux from FTP Server- Missing P/W?

Each time I've tried to download the PPC-version of ArchLinux from ftp://ftp.archlinuxppc.org/iso/releases I get a message that asks for a username & password. Please tell me what the username & password I need to submit.

Would you tell me the login-details (username & password) I need to access & download the files in that FTP server? - or please tell me where to find a non-FTP server, which allows me to download the last 2 PPC versions of Arch Linux?

No, what I mean is that it doesn't require a username or password.

I knew/know what you meant. If you're not very busy helping other noobs like me, would you please upload the following file to FileDropper.com or any other free file-hosting website for me? I'm still unable to download it from that FTP server:

Archlinux-ppc-2007.08.2-Don't-Panic.ftp.iso

Afaik this is not an official Arch fork - i think you better get in touch with the PPC devs/maintainers.

One address that pops up on the front page is armin at archlinuxppc dot org. Alexander Baldeck's name is also listed there.

Edit: Just tried on Windows (Opera - at work) here, and ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/ works without a hitch. So I'm guessing the problem is at your end. Tried with a different browser?

Yes, the problem is the mac-browsers, which I've been using to download that specific file from the FTP server. Thanks for telling me what you did. I appreciate your patience & help.

So far, I've tried Apple Safari for Mac, and Firefox to download it.

In a moment, I'll download Opera for Mac, so then I can try to download that arch linux .iso-file, again.
If you or anyone, who has enough time to deal with this can upload that file to FileDropper.com for me, I would very much appreciate it. Today, my browsers have been working fine on non-FTP servers (especially the ones that don't ask for usernames & passwords).

I'm leaving this note just to give you or anyone else an idea about how fast FileDropper.com can upload an .iso or any other type of file:
I just uploaded 4GB to FileDropper, today. It took less than 10min for it to finish uploading.

Try putting "ftp" or "anonymous" as the username, and anything with an @ sign in it for the password.

("ftp" as the username and "anonymous@" as the password works for me for that site)

I don't know about Apple Safari, but I'm pretty sure Firefox is supposed to hide this process from the user. Maybe the ppc version is different.

Also try downloading from this mirror (it's HTTP so it should work):

EDIT: Also changing just the protocol on the ftp.archlinuxppc.org should work

A note for you: it always depends on the weakest link. Just because you have a high upload speed doesn't mean anyone else has .

Edit: I just asked someone on a Mac to try it, and it works for him. So you must have some setting all mixed up...

I finally successfully downloaded that .iso file I needed from the Arch Linux FTP server by turning off my Speed Download (download manager) application, which was intercepting the files I tried to download, until tonight.

For future readers, there's also BitTorrent, which can easily surpass any direct link if there are a good number of seeds and peers (which Linux distros often have)
