AL's new website

I like the simplicity of the new website. Simple but informative. Well done.

AOL!!1!

Yep, the design is nice, and yet there still is the same, informative underlying layout. smile
The only gripe one could construct is the lacking compliance to a known (X)HTML standard, but well.. can't have everything, I guess.

Oh, I have no doubt about that whatsoever. After all this isn't some kiddie page about a hamster and his favourite food made by a complete jerk, but rather the front-line advertisement and communication portal of a near-professional, ambitious and growing linux distribution! wink

Re: AL's new website

Great-looking site!  I love the new logo too.  I think with the new attractive site, the great new logo and what will of course be another excellent release (nova), hopefully Arch will get the attention it really deserves.

I haven't been around here recently because my home computer stopped functioning.  I'm trying to get another one together so I can get back to playing around in Arch!  smile

Keep up the good work!

Re: AL's new website

Arch Linux has got two new features: ArchStats and TURs. I suggest links are added on front page (Development column) for the both websites.

http://tur.berlios.de/

Re: AL's new website

i do not agree with "offcially" promoting TURs or the Arch Stats web pages. Though i am not opposed to either i am opposed to giving what i would call official recognition. IMHO it was bad enough that TURs were given mention in the "news" section.

mind you i may be in the minority with this opinion.

Re: AL's new website

Even though I am a TU, I agree with sarah on this one.  The front page should be used to promote things officially supported by the developers as Official Arch Products.  The two projects mentioned, while very good for the community, aren't officially supported and to put them on the front page may cause confusion.  Promotion/advertising of these projects is precisely what the forums are for...let's use them for that and let the developers actually work on the distro instead of supporting and promoting all of their work as well as every community project as well smile

Re: AL's new website

i also agree with you sarah ... TUR must not be (at least not under "official") linked to the frontpage ... if the word unofficial were not already used with the "unofficial" repository i would say, let's link TURs under this keyword ... hmmm ... what about this renaming:

current = core
unofficial = goodies
unstable = devels
TURs = unofficial
?

Re: AL's new website

Good suggestion, dp.  Renaming "unofficial" is a long-overdue task, and I promise it will happen this century.   wink

Hi dp,

dp wrote:

generally I like your names, but "core" or "goodies" ,I think, can be to
easily confused with package set descriptions such as "base" or "xfce-goodies".
current/stable and devels as well as unofficial for the TURs should stay as
they are. unofficial should be somethink like additional as repository
description. Likely native speaker will find a better word for that, and
eventually it's gonna be their decision.  wink
