I have the most recent version of openoffice installed, and AFAIK it is supposed to come with a US-English dictionary. Well, mine doesn't. In Options - Language Settings - Writing Aids the box "Available Language Modules" is empty. There is no add new dictionary wizard under File - Tools, and there is no file called dictionary.lst on my system (according to updatedb/locate).
How can I either add a dictionary, or find where my dictionary is installed and get openoffice to recognize it?
Thanks,
-A

Open OpenOffice.org writer.
Tools -> Extension manager -> Add
Preinstalled extensions are located in /opt/openoffice/share/extension/install/ there's english there, as well as couple of other common languages.

Welcome to the forums amca01.
For future reference, you would have found your answer in the first hit searching for "openoffice dictionaries" in the forums. It's also in the wiki.

Just curious... Is there any reason why it wasn't enabled by default?
Also, a message regarding this during installation would help too. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this.)

1) It's the upstream behavior. Where should the packager know what language(s) you want to install?
2) Open your eyes and have a look what pacman tells you. There's also a pacman.log to check.
