Hi guys,
I used to run VirtualBox 2.0.6 and it would recognize my USB-Serial cable when I plugged it in. I upgraded to 2.1.0 and the cable doesn't work. The VM (WinXP) recognizes the cable, but when I try to run a program that uses the cable, nothing happens. I thought the problem might be the VM so I plugged in my USB flash drive and that worked fine. I opened a terminal and typed in 'dmesg' and this is what I got,
usb 5-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
pl2303 5-1:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
usb 5-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 7155 (VirtualBox) did not claim interface 0 before use
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 7155 (VirtualBox) did not claim interface 0 before use
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 7155 (VirtualBox) did not claim interface 0 before use
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 7155 (VirtualBox) did not claim interface 0 before use
usb 5-1: usbfs: process 7155 (VirtualBox) did not claim interface 0 before use
pl2303 ttyUSB0: pl2303 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
pl2303 5-1:1.0: device disconnected
If I remove the cable from the VM then this is what I get when I run 'dmesg' again,
usb 5-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
pl2303 5-1:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
usb 5-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
I've edited /etc/fstab to include the line to get USB working on the VMs and I've also added my account to the group 'vboxusers'. I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
