NetworkManager broke after update

Hello,

I ran a systemwide update last night that consisted of updates from the last couple day. AFter a reboot, nm-applet no longer shows in my panel.  I am using gnome-network-manager 0.6.5-1. I noticed other people were having problems too, but their problems was dues to an upgrade to version .7. I am still using the version in /extra.

nm-applet is running though. It shows up in my process list.

I'm not sure if its related, but it seems none of my network interfaces is up on boot anymore (except for the loopback interface). Even if I bring it up manually using ifconfig, it won't connect. I have to use the /etc/rc.d/network script to restart the networking before I can connect.

Here is my rc.conf in case you need it:

#
# /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux

Re: NetworkManager broke after update

I'm having a very similar problem. It seems that HAL/ dbus is the issue. I can get dbus's init script (/etc/rc.d/dbus) to start, but HAL's init script (/etc/rc.d/hal) hangs. I tried to launch HAL on its own, and it fails with:

# /usr/sbin/hald --verbose=yes --daemon=no
19:12:28.353 [i] hald.c:669: hal 0.5.11
19:12:28.364 [i] hald.c:734: Will not daemonize
19:12:28.370 [i] hald_dbus.c:5381: local server is listening at unix:abstract=/var/run/hald/dbus-5U9mW9MVsz,guid=4eab39ad544a023334f927b3497fcd1c
19:12:28.377 [E] hald_dbus.c:5747: dbus_bus_get(): Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory

Because of this output, and similar output in nm-applet when launched from terminal, I'm suspecting dbus but I haven't the slightest idea how to fix it.

I know this isn't much help, but I hope to have some more information shortly and hopefully have pointed you in the right direction. :-/

EDITED: because I can't spell, apparently.

Re: NetworkManager broke after update

I had the same issue : I uninstalled everything related to networkmanager (networkmanager and gnome-networkmanager-applet) and reinstalled it (through a wired connection)

Then, retarted hal daemon, restarted networkmanager, restarted nm-applet (asked to be granted by gnome-keyring).
Works !

I rebooted the system to check if it launches at startup, everything went fine...
