I recompiled kernel with PAE support to enable 4 GB RAM instead of 3 GB. But I can't load Xorg with Catalyst drivers, system hangs with black screen and only reset button helps. When I installed standart kernel from repository, it worked again. But system sees only 3 GB now. Does Catalyst work with kernel with PAE support?
Sorry for my bad English.

Sounds like it doesn't. Are you sure that's the only option you changed? You should be able to copy the kernel26 dir from ABS and modify the .config file, changing just one line for PAE.
Try the RadeonHD open source drivers, if your card supports them?

Yes.

I have been stumbling with this as well. In my experience, catalyst works with PAE up to kernel 2.6.27.8, which is what I'm currently running. From 2.6.27.10 onwards it doesn't. (I haven't tried 2.6.27.9). Also, other "non standard" options like changing processor type to core2/newer xeon seems to break catalyst after 2.6.27.8.
