X freezes after update

I ran a complete update two days ago. The console works fine but X freezes.

I get the identical OpenBox desktop with conky, and the mouse cursor too. But can't move the
mouse, can't exit X with Ctrl-Alt-BS, can't go to virtual terminals (Alt-Ctrl-F2-6). Have to hard
reset.

This is a Dell latitude with a ATI Mobility Radeon X300 graphic card. Screen has native 1600x1050.

By trying various alternatives I might have broke xorg.conf. It is OK to start from scratch.

Re: X freezes after update

Xorg.log pastebin? It would help a lot, I think.

Re: X freezes after update

See the page "beginner's guide" section 3.3.3 in the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … otplugging
I think it's OK to just delete to config file and either start without it (=autodetection) or let X generate a new one. I had also the freezing problem (but after a new installation) - it is also covered in the beginner's wiki. But maybe your problem is more complex than mine, I didn't read all through your X log.

Re: X freezes after update

Hi

It was exactly the problem documented in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … otplugging

Disabling it with a section like this solved it!

Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection

Thanks you guys.
