Kernel upgrade and NVidia troubles

Sorry for the subject, but I have no idea how to describe my problem in a few words wink.

My situation looks this way:
I have stability issues with the latest 180.x nvidia drivers and any config couldn't help it. So I had to downgrade them to 177.82-2, which have patch applied for the 2.6.28-1 kernel.
Now the new kernel is out - will the 177.82 nvidia driver work well with this one or not? I am not going to install 180.x nvidia drivers, because I am really not interested in rebooting my PC once or twice an hour, after X crash...

Also - I know that I am not the only one, who has the issues with the latest NVidia driver, so perhaps there is a way to temporarily add the 177.82 drivers with the patches for latest kernels to the repositories, until NVidia would resolve the problem? It would help the inexperienced users (like me) to maintain the usable system without hours of hacking (I have lost the whole weekend to that issue myself).

What would you advise?

Some applications are WYSIWYG, and some are WYSIWTF.
