Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Works flawlessly with lib32-nvidia-utils (with direct rendering).

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

This is what i get now after following AUR instructions :

michael@michael ~$ googleearth
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 8: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 8: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: Success
michael@michael ~$ /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin
bash: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: No such file or directory
I chowned everything to myself, but still no luck.
Installed lib32-nvidia-utils, still the same message. sad

Applications that install into /opt modify the PATH environment variable.

Either:
1.) Source /etc/profile and your custom shell profile
2.) Logout/login
3.) Reboot (...)

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

(I am not on Arch right now)

Please post output of 'ls -lh /opt/google-earth' and 'echo $PATH'.

Also, that chowning does not sound like a good idea... files not in your user's /home or /tmp should not belong to that user, generally. Leave it to root. You may want to remove the package and install again before doing the above.

Oh, and a tip I found by Googling..
Try running 'export GOOGLEEARTH_DATA_PATH=/opt/google-earth/', and then do 'googleearth'.

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

You're missing some 32 bit dependencies. I know it's hard to see with almost no output, but that's what's happening. The first thing that I'd do here is to run ldconfig as root and see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'd find out what lib32 libraries others have that are running this.

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Did you try with my last tip?

After you've tried using just 'googleearth' once, what is 'echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH'?

To anyone else who wants to help, this may provide info: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/bin32 … oogleearth
I'm not experienced enough in Bash, but the problem likely lies there.

EDIT: Got beat to it. Trust him over me tongue One lib32 that isn't listed in the PKBUILD, but I know is sometimes necessary, is lib32-libxdamage.

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Reinstalled so root owns everything again ;

root@michael / #export GOOGLEEARTH_DATA_PATH=/opt/google-earth/
root@michael / #googleearth
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 8: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 8: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: Success
Well, if that's not optimism...

root@michael / #echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

root@michael / #

Maybe there's something here !

installed lib32-libxdamage-1.1.1-1 ,but to no effect

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

First off, you should not have to, nor should you, run Google Earth as root. Second, LD_LIBRARY_PATH isn't necessary if all of the paths are listed in /etc/ld.so.conf, and ldconfig was run as root. Packages should take care of that upon install.

You do have all of the dependencies listed on the AUR page installed, as well as some sort of lib32 graphics driver, right?

lib32-glib2
lib32-libgl
lib32-libsm
lib32-libxcursor
lib32-libxft
lib32-libxi
lib32-libxinerama
lib32-libxrandr
lib32-pcre

If you do have all of those installed, and it's still not running, there are missing dependencies. Unfortunately, binaries like this one will give you crap for output making it hard to figure out what's happening. Hopefully someone that uses Google Earth on 64 bit will post what their lib32 setup is like.

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Well what i'm doing now is pacman -Ss lib32 and downloading every single one - let's see what happens.

You're going to have file conflicts (video drivers). But, I'm guessing that you know that already...

Yay ! It works. Here's the log, i had to remove nvidia-utils at some point. Who the culprit was i guess we'll never know. Thanks to all !((:

You're welcome.

Man, with that collection you can run Skype, Wine (with maybe another dependency or two from AUR), Lightscribe with the Lacie front end -- just about anything.

Go ahead and mark this thread as solved if you're finished with it.

***To everyone***

If anyone knows what the missing library(s) were, please post on the AUR page. Something is missing that needs to be there.

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Hey, glad you got it working.

If you want, please try removing lib32s until you find the culprit. It would help anyone who gets this problem in the future smile

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Has to be among these (installed), because the ones marked 'upgraded' were there already when it wasn't working. Maybe someone more knowledgeable could exclude some without need for testing. All i can think is that alsa and cups have nothing to do with ge, but that's as far as i can go. And, how do i edit the post title ?

Re: googleearth on arch64 [Solved]

Spent some time removing-testing lib32s but it got so confusing that i finally decided to uninstall everything and start again. I tried to re-install lib32 but it complained as follows:
root@michael /home/michael #pacman -S lib32
lib32 package not found, searching for group...
:: group lib32 (including ignored packages):
    lib32-alsa-lib  lib32-atk  lib32-cairo  lib32-catalyst-utils  lib32-db
    lib32-expat  lib32-fontconfig  lib32-freetype2  lib32-gcc-libs  lib32-glib2

    lib32-libxdmcp  lib32-libxext  lib32-libxfixes  lib32-libxft  lib32-libxi

warning: removing 'lib32-libgl' from target list because it conflicts with 'lib32-catalyst-utils'
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: lib32-catalyst-utils: conflicts with lib32-nvidia-utils

So i installed the dependencies listed on AUR one by one
lib32-glib2
lib32-libgl
lib32-libsm
lib32-libxcursor
lib32-libxft
lib32-libxi
lib32-libxinerama
lib32-libxrandr
lib32-pcre

and then
root@michael /var/abs/local/bin32-google-earth #pacman -U bin32-google-earth-4.3.7284.3916-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

and once again it would not work, but sent a message

michael@michael ~$ googleearth
./googleearth-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libXdamage.so.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

So now i do

pacman -S lib32-libxdamage

and now googleearth works again. The confusion came up by installing nvidia-utils, that demanded uninstall of some other key packages, and then nothing worked anymore. So, just add libxdamage and no nvidia-utils.
Guess that wraps it up, at last.
