Have been running the swedish keyboard for a while and a few days back it wont work, its back to the original english i suppose.
Havent modified the xorg.conf file...
Same option is still there under keyboard settings:
Option "XkbLayout" "se"
Any hints?

have you tried:
setxkbmap <your code here>
your code might be "se"
as mine is pt

I struggled to get my non utf8 apps working in X with swedish keymap the answer was rather baffling.
Open /etc/rc.conf in your favorite text editor and change locale to.
LOCALE="swedish"
and then in /etc/rc.local open a new line and insert (you may also have to set locale in Gnome,KDE,E17,whatever).
export LC_ALL="swedish"
It seems like support for iso8859-xx is dying.
