after upgrading kde, kopete won't log me into msn.
when I launch it from terminal, it says it can't find the kopete_msn plugin.

Are you sure that the MSN plugin is enabled? The MSN system got completely reworked in the new Kopete.
Also, do you have the latest Kopete? kopete 4.2.0-4 in KDEmod, kdenetwork 4.2.0-3 in stock KDE. Updates have been rapid-fire, you may not have the latest package (it might not be even on your mirror yet).

The new package (4.2.0-3) opens from terminal without errors, but still doesn't work.
How do I check to see if msn is enabled?

I don't know, I don't have KDE right now. There should be a menu or something for plugins.

Can you add an MSN account in Kopete? (You can add it in the Settings menu)
If not, you need libmsn installed. Kopete uses it for MSN...

I have libmsn installed. And I already have an msn account in kopete.
This all worked fine until the update.

This also happened to me. I found the only way to get it to work was to completely uninstall it and start again.

Did you delete the kopete folder in .kde4/share/apps/ ?

even after I do that, it still won't show msn in the list of protocols when I recreate my account.

Ah, I'm not 100% sure but I think you'll find that it's the one labelled WLM.
