Hi!
I have a little problem with the new power managment of KDE 4.2. While frequency scaling is working very well the screen brightness cannot be changed. At least not as normal users. Even
solid-powermanagement brightness set 0
has no effect. But if I log in as root it works as aspected. So I guess there is somewhere a permission problem. To what group do I have to add my user? Adding it to "power" doesn't work. Or do I have to modify some HAL policies?
Can anyone maybe help me?

Works a treat for me. Here are my groups:
[toad@myhost ~]$ cat /etc/group|grep toad
tty::5:toad
disk::6:root,toad
uucp::14:toad
log::19:root,toad
locate::21:toad
games::50:toad
network:x:90:toad
video:x:91:toad
audio::92:toad
optical::93:toad,hal
storage:x:95:toad,hal
scanner:x:96:toad
power:x:98:toad
users::100:toad
[toad@myhost ~]$
never trust a toad...

Okay, I problem disappeared. Apparently just logging out after adding me to the "power" group was not enough. A full reboot did to trick. Although the brightness slider sometimes is a bit confused and reports the wrong brightness. But I consider this issue as solved. Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem, however I'm already in the 'power' group, so if you have more ideas on this issue...

I think the update to KDE 4.2.2 fixed it.
