Hello, I was happily using KDM + KDE 4.1.x about a week ago, then decided to use GDM + XFCE4 while I waited for the release of KDE 4.2. After installing XFCE4/GDM, I removed all KDE-esque packages from my system. GDM + XFCE4 worked without a hitch. Then when KDE 4.2 entered extra, I wanted to switch back. So I removed GDM, and installed kdebase. Then I edited /etc/inittab to read "x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon" instead of "x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/gdm -nodaemon" But when I reboot KDM doesn't start, and it goes to terminal. I can login and start XFCE4 manually. I looked in /usr/bin/ and there is no kdm in there... Does anyone know what I can do to get KDM installed/working? I have kdebase installed.

I believe kdm is somewhere in /opt, if KDE standard is the same as KDEmod (woot for KDEmod!). Search to find.
find / -name 'kdm'

In inittab the path for KDM is /usr/sbin/kdm, not /usr/bin/kdm like it was for GDM.

Thank you very much for all the replies. After installing kdebase-workspace, KDM appeared in /usr/bin/kdm. Someone should update the wiki, it says you only need kdebase. Thanks again everyone, now how do I mark this thread as solved?
