X freeze can someone help?

Check this out.

I have been running Arch64 for a while on my desktop, and Arch32 on my Dell Inspiron laptop even longer. I recently went to switch my wifes Dell Dimension E521 over to Arch32. Did the install followed by Pacman -Syu and all was fine. Installed X Gnome etc and after about 5-10 min. the mouse freezez. Disabled hotplugging "AutoAddDevice" "False" still no luck. Removed that line made sure hal was running smoothly, even added Load "evdev" in the modules section still no luck. BTW keyboard still works through all this.

Finally got pissed thru in Ubuntu 8.10, same thing. Did all the same corrections no luck. Pulled an old Ubuntu 7.04 live cd, and as long as I was on the live cd I was fine, started install mouse freezes.

WTF!! any thoughts.

Try unplugging and replugging the mouse, or using a different port. This could very well be a hardware issue - I used to have a trackball that did this, and periodically had to be replugged.

Tried that. Switched from rear usb to front to luck.  Also switched the mouse. Read somewhere it could be mouseemu related but I don't think that is my case.

Does gpm work? Play around with its settings - including noting that there is often more than one 'mouseX' under /dev/input, and one may be glitchy, even though you have only one mouse.

And please remove the all caps / annoying 'come help me'-type message from your title....

Re: X freeze can someone help?

I am on my desktop now and I see that I have mouse0 and mouse1 under /dev/input as Ranguvar said.  How do I tell which is one being used?
