Hm, any reasons why Soprano needs openjdk6?
I'm quite happy with current beta jre and its firefox plugin for x86_64,
and openjdk6 needed by new soprano package conflicts with it

Strigi needs openjdk backend i think...
Excuse my poor English.

No, Soprano depends on any java-runtime, jre is fine.

No, soprano depends specifically on openjdk6:

So it was a packaging bug, heh? There was a long thread in the forum about soprano. I simply had a look at the PKGBUILD in [extra] which does not depend on openjdk6: http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/s … iew=markup

sesame2. a fast backend, doesn't work with jre, methinks - some people did some symbolic linking, but I don't know if it worked. From what I know, soprano people (family!!1) are working to introduce another fast backend without java dependency.

I have to build every soprano package from abs too. Well this shows that OpenJDK and sun-jdk shouldn't be packaged to conflict with each other..

There is already an open bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/13071

Do these packages compiled from ABS work for you. I mean I also compiled soprano package with jre, but nepomuk didn't work for me. Every start of KDE it just started to index but when I checked its status it said " 0 files in index". Then I installed openjdk6 and nepomuk works as it should be.

Works for me. Sorano just seems rather unstable to me. It often likes to go totally haywire. For example, when I log out of KDE during initial indexing it never again stops indexing in later sessions. Or changing the indexed folder list made strigi go totally berzerk and index everything in a neverendling loop, bringing my system down to a crawl

Hmm... sounds serious. Have you filed bug reports? I was just looking through the nepomuk/soprano bugs the other day and could not find anything like this.

No, haven't filed any reports so far. Still not sure if it is supposed to be like this, or if the is something wrong here with my system.

I just linked /opt/java/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so to /usr/lib and that was it.
This with 6u12_b03 aka jre_beta in x86_64.

So what is the solution right now? I would like to upgrad my Arch, but get stuck on this issue. How can I selectively upgrade?

to get soprano working with jre/jdk you only need to add /opt/java/jre/lib/i386/server for 32bit systems to /etc/ld.so.conf
i don't now the line for 64bit but somewhere in this forum or comments in aur there are the right line for 64bit.
please provide a soprana package with java-environment or what else and openjdk6 and jre provide it.
additionaly you modify the jre/jdk package what they add the line depending on the system to the /etc/ld.so.conf

well, I was using "jre" and "jdk" only for my own developments, but now with openjdk I still do the same thing..
Is there any major difference between the Sun's jdk and openjdk ??
thanks

Is it safe to ignore the soprano for now and wait for an official fix? I run PS3 Media Server which depends on jre. Will I be hurting anything on my system if I just ignore soprano indefinitely?
Or does anybody know if PS3 Media Server will work with openjdk6?

Hi all.
@Namru.
I think that would be better to create a file with this line in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ (like libjre.conf) instead of adding to /etc/ld.so.conf.
What do you think?
Regards.

i think it's posible too.
i only find this solution and it works for me but i will test it.

on my system a "/etc/ld.so.conf.d/" doesn't exist
ld.so.conf is provided by the filesystem package.
i think we must first create an feature request / bug report for this package first after this the jre / jdk packages should provide an file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
what do you think about this ?
at the moment the jre / jdk maintainer doesn't give a feedback to my comment and the packages are also out of date.
