I'm building an Arch Artwork package. It will have icons, wallpapers, logos, splash screens, and any other arch propaganda. Eventually this will go to STAGING and then Extra. This is to allow custom arch stuff without messing up the vanilla nature of the packages.
Currently, I have all the artwork from http://www.archlinux.org/logos.php, a GNOME splash screen by seba (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=1990), and a KDE splash screen by enderst (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=13885).
If anyone would like to help, I need:
- Links to Arch artwork
- If you created a piece, I need permission and an email address/alias for the CREDITS file
- If you are not the creator, artwork must have proper license to allow this redistribution
Lots of the artwork on the official Logos page doesnt have any credits. Would Judd like to fill in the blanks on who created these? I presume they can go into a package, as Arch is allowed to distribute them.
Thanks to everyone. Right now this will go in /usr/share/arch-artwork.
EDIT:
Also, the naming scheme will be TYPE_CREATOR_NUM.EXT. Anyone have any problems with that? We could try a descriptive naming scheme, but that would probably be a mess.
As well, should we impose a specific image format (for things that don't have one, like wallpapers)?

Look at these two threads for the artwork I created:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=5484 (this one is also on the official logos page)
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=5448
You are free to include these in the package, looking forward for the first release 8)

Could the archlinux firefox search be added also?

Feel free to use any of mine. Let me know if you need something specific too. Im more than willing to help out.

Thanks for the help everyone. Things are coming along. Keep submitting things.
jsutnoni: What's your email address, so I can put it in the CREDITS?
colnago: That's not really artwork, and I would have to install that into the firefox directory, which may or may not exist (I wanted to keep things in a generic /usr/share).
From the logos page, these files I dont have any info on:
arch_linux_logo_joseph.png
archblue.png
archblue2.png
archlinux_logo_1.svg
archlinux_logo_2.svg
archlinux_logo_aqua.svg
archlogo.gif
archlogo2.gif
archlogo3.gif
archlogo_black.gif
archlogo_white.gif
jake1.jpg
jake2.jpg
jake3.jpg
sml-archlinux_logo_aqua.png
I'll probably put all the artwork as a separate tarball up on my server, instead of downloading from various locations (and renaming) in the PKGBUILD, since I can't be sure things will stay up.

As well, should we impose a specific image format (for things that don't have one, like wallpapers)?
as the pkg will grow and be soon a big one, i would say, that we go for the smallest-size format (often jpg is smaller than png, but if png is made from svg, it can be much smaller than jpg - depends on the original)
also, it would be great to have somewhere a dir for svg's for the future artists to have raw material to work with
something like this as dir-structure for the pkg you make:
$i="/usr/share/arch-artwork/"
svg's:
$i/svg/
wallpapers:
$wp=$i/wallpapers/
xga-wallpapers:
$wp/xga
uxga-wallpapers:
$wp/uxga
...
kde-splashes:
/opt/kde/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/$name-of-splash/*
a draft from me - for sure, you already have your own - hope mine is an inspiration for you :-)

OK, first test is up. I'd like to have everyone who contributed look at it before it goes up to STAGING.

This look great. I love the fact that there is a AL art package. I defanitly will be working on some more AL related graphics for future releases. Great job contrasutra!

Yeah! Time for an Arch Linux theming marathon!
If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience.

Hi,
just my 2 Cent,
I made an archlinux related xfwm4 theme long ago. You can find it here:
http://www.justdreams.de/archlinux/down … nux.tar.gz
btw: the name of teh directory in the tarball is the name of the theme, so
if someone comes up with something more creative than what we have...
it needs to be untared to /opt/xfce4/share/xfwm4/themes so that xfwm
finds it and displays it in its wm themes dialog, and it looks like that:
http://www.justdreams.de/archlinux/imag … wm4_01.png
It is completely aware of gtk2 themes colors and it's rather small since I
wanted to use it for the laptop.
Add it to the package if you like...

neri that is sweet! can we get a pkg?
EDIT:
jsut installed it on Xfce4.1.3 CVS and its not picking up gtk colors. Ill take a look at it and see if i cant get it to, but i though i would edit and let ya know.

whooops, mea maxima culpa. It was late here and I upped the wrong tarball.
this should be fixed now. Just make a new download and you have the
gtk-color aware one. At least it works for 4.0.6 stable. Maybe things are a
bit different on cvs version since cvs supports xpm + png blending with alpha
support for gradients and things if you want. But AFAIK, themes are
backward compatible.

yes that worked perfectly! Thank you! This is an awsome theme!

as usual, seems like i'm late for the party. Sorry about that, i've been travelling a lot this summer.
Anyway, this is a good idea! You're welcome to have my logos/contributions.
Te gdm themes knocking about here are mine, and if appropriate, please use them.
This logo is also mine. I'd advise you distribute the SVGs.
I've also made a xfwm theme that i'm cautious about offering, because it uses some frame graphics from another theme, that has no copyright/license information. But maybe we don't need two!
There's also a bootsplash theme you can have if anyone is using bootsplash, and some misc graphics (like an arch clock face i use with gdesklets). All this stuff is orginal artwork. But i'll have to tar them up, and my arch box is at the moment disconnected while i'm staying at my parents'.
Anyway, i've ordered a wireless adaptor that should arrive soon, hopefully enabling me to get online and post all of that.
In the mean time, my email address is e.o.h.steel@warwick.ac.uk my name is Edward Steel, and you have all my permission to use any artwork you can get your hands on. Thanks!
I can put absolutely everything together and email it if you like, but like i said, my arch box is offline, so it might be a few days.

this logo is yours? excellent job!
maybe you realized that the new kernel framebuffer (for kernel26 and kernel26mm) is using it instead of the penguin - i rendered it from your SVG i found here and made it compatible for the kernel (webcvs to file) - hope you don't mind (i originally had it for kernel26mm and as i then included kernel26mm to extra, it went with it and also contacted Judd, who liked the idea and added it to kernel26 too)

woo! Thanks DP, I did notice an arch logo in the new PKGBUILD, but since I'm using a custom config my kernel i don't have it. I have half a mind to recompile now though! Thanks a lot!
Sorry I forgot about your package kpiche, that's probably the best place for the themes right now.
