solved: problem with diacritics in filenames

I am using KDE4.

When I create a file with a diacritic character (I live in Spain, so there's quite some possibility....) like e.g. 'nómina', it shows up fine in Dolphin, but when I try to open it I get an error that file 'n¬mina' (actually the symbol is a square or a blank' does not exist.

In the console I also see a strange character and I cannot address the file with the diacritic in the name.

Locale is en_GB.utf8 and fstab line for my home partition is this:
UUID=95d8552a-a92a-447c-ba34-9ce0a7b42c86 / ext3 defaults,noatime 0 1

I am a bit stumped here, so any good ideas are more than welcome...

Cheers!

EDIT
I _can_ open the file from within Okular via the file dialog. The name shows correct then as well.:rolleyes:

By console do you mean vc/1 or xterm?

Re: solved: problem with diacritics in filenames

Hmm, just went into a VT and it shows up wrong there as well.

Strange thing: I start MEPIS on another partition, open the home partition for Arch and see wrong characters as well. However, I can create a new file with the 'ó' character in it and it opens correctly. In Arch that fails.

Both systems run with locale en_GB.utf8....

Sorry....

turns out I had selected a locale in rc.conf that was not generated yet.. Can happen to anyone, but more likely to the stoopids.....
