Slow kde4

Just installed linux again.
Kde4 is acting slow and freezie like windows acts when it has a virus.

when I

$sudo pacman -Ss anything
$password:

then it freezes

----------------------------
I have 2tb hard-drive
8gb of ram
quad processor

no way my hardware isn't good enough.

Re: Slow kde4

check your task manager... KDE can't be responsible for pacman being slow. I guess some program is using all your CPU for some reason.

Re: Slow kde4

I can't tell it shows
x using 3-7 percent
something else does 1-2
then a bunch of sleep disk readings and after that nothing, but my windows are still freezing and being slow.
at the bottom it say I am using 25-33% of cpu but it doesn't show what is taking it up.

isn't it weird to be using 25% of you cpu just for it to sit there and do nothing?

Re: Slow kde4

Could be Strigi indexing your files. Try to disable Strigi and Nepomuk.

Re: Slow kde4

True.. disable that... this would also explain slow pacman, because strigi uses a lot of disk cycles...

In addition to that its not even really integrated into KDE atm, so its more or less useless anyway
