Capacitive soft touch media keys and Linux

Hey, I've just ordered an hp dv7t. I can't wait to get Arch running on it, but I'm a little worried.

My current laptop is a 15" Toshiba with a hardware volume control wheel. The one I'll be getting has soft touch media keys for control of the volume, network card, and back/forward/pause/etc. media keys.

Does anyone have experience with these and if they work well in Linux as of 2.6.28? Can they be mapped correctly? Do they work with Xorg's new HAL crap?

Re: Capacitive soft touch media keys and Linux

I have the HP Pavilion dv6000 (dv6404ca to be exact) and the soft touch keys work "out of the box" on it.  All the main ones anyways, I don't use the dvd key or the "media" (looks like an arrow wrapped into a circle).

The keys play/pause/ff/rw/mute/vol up and down with no problems in Rythmbox.

Re: Capacitive soft touch media keys and Linux

there must be some sort of standard on this.  Every (external) keyboard I've tried (an apple, compaq, cheapo) had it's next/previous/play/pause/volume/... keys working by default, even on Arch smile

Re: Capacitive soft touch media keys and Linux

Hi ... I have the same issue in my HP pavilion dv6000 too...
I'm running Openbox though and the keys don't seem to be working out of the box.
Could anyone gimme any suggestion regarding the same to make them working ?

I would also appreciate any config files included.

How I'm learning linux : If it ain't broken, fix it until it is. Then start over again.
