Epson Stylus DX 7450

Hello,

I need support to install a Epson Stylus DX 7450 scanner. I installed SANE und iscan, but I can't find the scanner.
sane-find-scanner list the scanner, but scanimage -L can't find it. The power is on and the printer works well.
Can me please give someone a detailled how to install this scanner? Is a firmware necessary? Is it necessary do specify the backend, manufacturer id, etc?

Thanks

Re: Epson Stylus DX 7450

Well I did get it to work somehow... Although I can only scan as root. Can't quite remember how I installed it, though, it's been a long time ago. I'm going to reinstall soon with the new 2009.02 image, so I'll try to come back to you.

I'm using the epson backend, 0x4b8 0x838 as product and device id, and I also uncommented the last two lines in /etc/sane.d/epson.conf:

usb /dev/usbscanner0
usb /dev/usb/scanner0

EDIT: Scratch that, I just scanned wit xsane without using root. Launching xsane, a dialog popped up which told me I needed permission to access some file (it didn't mention which one), I clicked it away and scanning went fine.

$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8, product=0x0838) at libusb:001:028

$ scanimage -L
device `epson:libusb:001:028' is a Epson CX7400 Flatbed Scanner

I think I remember doing something with the libusb:001:028 snippet of information, though I really can't find out what it was... btw, I didn't change any udev rules.
