When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

Today after upgrading to the new bluez libs i hoped all evil problems with arch and bluetooth headsets should be gone over. But i was wrong.

I love arch but the only thing i can't set is my own bluetooth headset. It works perfectly on ubuntu following this guide -> http://gablog.eu/online/node/80

On arch i can't apply this guide because snd-bt-sco module doesn't exist (while sco does).

Then now, with new bluez, i noted that the gnome-bluetooth-icon doesn't appear any more.

Re: When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

The bluez-gnome package should be upgraded to 1.8 for the icon

and about sound, I guess when pulseaudio finally works and implements Bt sound then it will work.

Btw.. that guy is wrong that he needs "snd-bt-sco" (which was depreceated and removed very quick) so that his config works. That "type bluetooth" works over the /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_bluetooth.so alsa plugin... but is still not perfect.

Re: When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

I know snd-bt-sco is deprecated but paradoxically it's the only way to get it work.
It's curious: searching "bluetooth headset" on this forum it seems anyone didn't resolve this bluetooth problem!!!

Re: When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

snd-bt-sco was never included in the mainline kernel source, so it would never have been provided by any official Arch package. Before it became obsolete, there was a package for it in the AUR. If you can still find the source, you may still be able to build it yourself.

bluez-gnome 1.8 is currently in the testing repo, and will move to extra when the maintainer decides it is ready, If you want to give him some feedback to help with that process, enable the testing repo.

Please do not report a bug - this is a bug-free thread. smile

regulary not, that's right; but the problem is, otherwise it will *NOT* work;

and "File a bug report" would not solve anything, as long as i don't know, if it is even a bug;
the point is, that before this f***ing "bluez" think came, my bluetooth headset worked like a charm, but since then i'm trying maybe twice a year to get it work, unsuccessful till now.
maybe snd-bt-sco was never included in the mainline, but it worked without any complications.
and the documentation for bluez is as useful as the "File a bug report" quote.
reminds me kinda "pulse-audio", which is also an absolutely pain, if you're not on gnome/kde or ubuntu;

i've tried another time today and after 5 hours of work i'll put my bluetooth headset back into it's box and stay waiting;

Re: When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

Omg i want to use my bluetooth headset NAO. Seem's they have dropped support for snd-bt-sco in 2.6.28.

AND NO, bluez crap doesn't work for me.

Is there any possibility to use snd-bt-sco in 2.6.28? It did work in 2.6.27. I wonder what the ubuntu guys will do in the next april release. oO

Re: When archlinux finally will support bluetooth headsets?

I'll leave the bug report to gcarrier, now that it's been assigned to him, but please be aware of what you're asking for here. You want Arch to include obsolete unmaintained code in the kernel package - code that was never considered stable enough for inclusion in the upstream kernel source, even when it was maintained. If you are even slightly familiar with the way Arch works, you must know that this will not be implemented.

Ubuntu does what Ubuntu does, and the best way you could benefit from that is to find out how they make snd-bt-sco work with current kernels, and apply it in a separate out-of-kernel package. My recommendation, however, would be that you raise your issues upstream with the bluez developers - maybe you can assist with the development of real, up-to-date, solutions.
