Good solution to volume management on a minimalist wm?

Hi, I'm currently using Awesome WM and need a way to manage volumes, Nautilus did it while I used GNOME, but not anymore.

prob not the solution you're looking for, but you could always open alsamixer in a terminal.

Sorry, I meant volumes as in flash drives, CDs, etc.

I use thunar, though you could use pcmanfs. However nautilus should also work, are you having a problem with nautilus?

Do you have hal running?

I have hal, I use thunar for file management, does it do external media as well?
I love Nautilus but it renders a desktop and icons when I run it. hmm

Re: Good solution to volume management on a minimalist wm?

When I plug in my flash drive thunar-volman says
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result).

@deadlylife,

nautilus --no-desktop

That stops the desktop tongue

Thunar does external media very well.  Make sure thunar --daemon is started when you log into your WM.

Run nautilus with the --no-desktop option. That'll keep it from taking over and it'll just run as a file manager.

I have the thunar --daemon run when it starts, but I don't have permission to edit my flash drive's contents.

Re: Good solution to volume management on a minimalist wm?

Did you install the thunar-volman package ? If you don't have that, thunar won't mount things

This is a policy/console-kit problem.  See this bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12221, you'll find a discussion of various workarounds in the comments there.
