[Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

19:59:31 speng@spengpc [~] $ sudo pacman
sudo: pacman: command not found

Sudo is recognised as a command, but I can't load programs with it.

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

are you in user group wheel?

have you run visudo?

according to your post sudo isn't recognized as a command. Check to make sure sudo is even installed.

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

The error message shows that sudo cannot find pacman, pacman works otherwise I would have a much bigger program, sudo was already reinstalled that's not the issue.
sudo prompts me for password then just says it doesn't find pacman.

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

I seem to remember this happening to me before but I'm not sure why. It could have been related to when I was trying to add tab completion.

Right now I have
complete -cf sudo
In my .bashrc and it's working fine.

Did you do anything related to autocompletion? Again, not entirely sure if this is even related. wink

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

can you verify that pacman works by running it as root?

and that sudo cannot find any programs at all, not just pacman?

also have you added any pacman related functions or aliases to ~/.bashrc?

EDIT: referring to the post below, if that's the case then you probably should boot into your regular system and install sudo if it isn't installed already.

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

Thanks, but that wasn't it.

I was just messing around with my arch32 chroot, I remember installing sudo on arch32 now. >_>
Might be related, heh. Where do I go from here?

TBomB: chroot is done from within my system, no need to boot into another system. sudo was installed on arch32, saw it didn't work, then when I saw it didn't work I tried reinstalling it on arch64.

I haven't done any stupid mistakes like using wrong repos. tongue

Edit:

21:31:43 [root@spengpc [speng] 3.2]# chroot /opt/arch32
bash: chroot: command not found

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

Reinstalling bash seem to have done the work.

That was the strangest thing that had happened, I'm glad fixing it was painless. smile

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

hmm

how are you updating your system?

you're using pacman -Syu right?

I saw on another thread that someone was using pacman -Syudf and it was breaking things, which led to sudo not being able to find pacman.

It could potentially be something being screwed up in your database. That, i don't know how to fix.

Edit: nevermind, i think.

lol

Of course, I don't do silly things like that, haha. I have to look into the cause of why it happened, it was definitely something I did in my Arch32 installation which affected my original Arch64 installation. Everything works now though. smile

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

Sometimes the most puzzling problems have ridiculous solutions. You always have to start out with the basics.

Glad to hear everything's working though :]

Re: [Reoccuring!]sudo no longer works

Oh god, just logged in, same thing. Why is it doing this, it's so strange. I hadn't even touched my chroot before this happened.

Edit: More info, the default path for terminal is now /usr/bin... firefox won't launch with Launchy.
I don't think my settings are being read correctly...

ALSO! This does not happen in Fluxbox. So it's a GNOME error. That should help solve it I reckon.
