I just installed cups for my printer, an HP PSC 1350, with this guide: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS
The gnome-cups-manager recognizes my printer, as does the online CUPS interface, with which I have installed and reinstalled the printer multiple time. However, when I go to print a test page it always stops and never works.
My user is a part of the "lp" group, so I don't think this is a permissions error.
The online CUPS interface gives me this error when I try to print a test page:
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip-hplip failed"
Running "tail -n 100 -f /var/log/cups/error_log" gives me the following output:
I [14/Feb/2009:01:25:33 -0500] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid

I am concerned mostly with the "job stopped due to filter errors" error. I don't know what to do about this. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Well, I just installed the HPLIP package FROM SOURCE.
Got it from here: http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html
I had originally installed HPLIP from the pacman repositories, and it gave me all the errors above when I tried to print. Also, after that I had tried to run the command "hp-setup," but received an error, and it would not run at all.
Now, after installing that from source (with nothing special done besides ./configure, make, and make install), I can run hp-setup and print a test page.
I don't know at all what was different this time around. If anyone has any idea, please post so that future installers will perhaps be able to debug their own systems.
