I have a couple of FAT32 and a couple of NTFS partitions which I am unable to mount as a normal user.
PCManFM says "DIRECTORY DOESN'T EXIST" after two dialogue boxes with nothing in them.
Opening GParted gives me an alert box saying
"Failed to mount "name_of_partition".
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action, result).
Happening only recently. Till now it was alright. Recently I had to do some stuff given IN THIS PAGE to fix other problems like inability to mount USB drive with fat32 partition and inability to restart/shutdown.

same problem here, till recently everithing was okay (I had to modify PCManFM permission in some config file in order to load ntfs from normal user), but now it does not work anymore. Mounting from the command line through pmount works.

Could you able to mount the drive as root?. After the recent hal update I had a similar problem but can be solved if you follow the wiki.
Pl see this thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=65070 and will help.

I found a post in the forum and added the solution to the HAL page on the wiki. Yes I can mount as root, it was a problem with hal upgrades.
Thanx
