Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

Could you also add ipw2200 please? I would really appreciate support for 802.11G.

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

Well I installed the ipw2200 package and followed the instructions @ ipw2200.sf.net(except I did not download the firmware, because the package already contained the firmware). It does not seem to work, however. iwconfig returns this:

eth1 ieee 802.11b ESSID:"Sitecom"
          Mode:Managed Channel:10 Access Point: 00:0C:F6:02:ED:44
          Bit Rate=11Mb/s
          RTS thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality:40/100 Signal level:-60 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:293 Missed beacon:6

Unfortunately I cannot confirm it doesn't work, because I only have wireless acces at my university. The information given by iwconfig does not seem to be correct, however. I have an Intel 2200BG that is 802.11G compliant. I do not have a sitecom. Could anyone help me with this or should a open a new thread @ kernel/hardware

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

i think all you have to do is to load hotplug at startup
that should set up the rest
the drivers are still a little bit beta so it can happen that they won't work
but they installed flawllessly?
then i can make them public
the rest is intel stuff that needs to be fixed by them

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

Sitecom is the essid, which is what 802.11b uses to associate with different networks (I don't know a lot about this stuff...).  Sitecom is not the network card.

I hsve hotplug in my rc.conf modules array, together with ipw2200 arc4, crc32 and crc32c, so that can' t be the problem.

But I don' t have a 802.11b wlan card. Mine is 802.11g.

The g cards are downward compatible with b networks. b cards depending on the network setup cannot access g networks.

You mean the AP is 802.11b (sitecom)? Btw I do know g is downward compatible with b.

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

if certain aspects of this package are not functional or under testing should it not be in the testing repo?

ah yes ... another example of needing packaging and repo addition policies.

if you are not sure parts are working then it should not be in the repos where people expect the packages to work.

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

it is not in the repos right now only on ftp server
not commited to cvs

it is only a driver for a wlan card
kernel module with firmware inlcuded nothing special

the ipw2100 drivers work the same way

yep when you do a scan and you find a router that is G compatible it will say
Bit Rate=54Mb/s along with some other bit rates listed. since you seem to be setup with the AP just dhcpcd eth1 and see if you can get an ip from the router.

Well it looks like it's working right now, but I can't test it because I don't have WiFi @ home. I will test it at the university next monday.

Re: [extra/network] intel centrino drivers are available

Hmm, really weird. Gnome's wlan strength indicator said the signal strength was 100%, which could not be possible, since I don't have wlan here. After I logged into my router's admin panel(Sitecom DC202v3), I noticed there were wireless functions added to it.

I think ipw2200 somehow claimed eth0, and so did my broadcom ethernet driver. That would explain the signal strength being 100% and the weird behavior of my non wlan broadband router/switch. It would also explain the sitecom essid in iwconfig. After I assigned my ethernet card to eth1 the signal strength dropped to 0%(N/A), which it should.

I don't know who's fault it was, Arch's, ipw2200, or another explanation. I  hope you all could understand my poor English.
