My system lists python as not being installed (and consequently attempts to resolve it as a dependency when installing with pacman. It then downloads python (or firefox when I use pacman -S firefox) then proceeds to list the files that are "already installed" and then informs me that nothing was installed.
This is likely the result of a failed install of python and firefox. Then I attempted to fix it by pacman -R which told me it was succesful...

What to do?
Ask smart questions and post substantial information regarding the issue or errors being posted.
Try the system logs for pacman, that is a start.
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, STOP BEING VAGUE, IT HELPS NO ONE!!!!

Are you syncing to the repos? (pacman -Sy firefox)
Are you sure your repo isn't out of date?

jacko:
My question was as specific as it could be. I had no idea of how to approach the problem having already tried to remove the packaged (which returned as removed succesfully but then did not allow a new package to be installed). I even told you what the logs would tell you.

thanks for offering helpful advice.
it is a new repo I had actually cleaned the cache with -cc causing package manager to download a new package upon the next install.

I manually deleted all the files listed as already existing. Then tried again and was successful with firefox. We'll see if the python works as well.

What Jacko meant is that you should post the error messages, not just say "it doesn't work".
