I recently did a fresh install on my old dell latitude c600.
From an arch version of about 1 yr ago, i8k/i8kmon was working just fine.
However, in this new arch version, the module i8k runs and the daemon i8kmon loads BUT it doesn't actually do anything -- the fan stays at the same setting no matter how hot the laptop gets.
dmesg:
i8k: unable to get SMM BIOS version
rc.conf:
MODULES=(ac battery fan button 3c59x mii rt2500pci ac97_bus snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss snd-page-alloc snd-pcm snd-timer snd snd-ac97-codec snd-maestro3 soundcore i8k speedstep-smi)
modprobe.conf:
options i8k force=1
lastly, i8kmon.conf:
set config(0) {{- 0} -1 45 -1 45}
set config(1) {{- 1} 41 70 41 70}
set config(2) {{- 2} 60 80 60 80}
set config(3) {{- 2} 70 128 75 128}
From the second line, the fan should turn on whenever it gets hotter than 41-degrees. However, it doesn't.
The fan does seem to be working because I can manually turn it on by running i8kmon (or by i8kctl - 1)
Any ideas?
