Man,
the tray icon corruption in kde 4.2 is making me crazy :-)
Is it possible to upgrade QT to 4.5(RC) ?
Or is there some other work around to this annoying bug?

4.5(RC) is not recommended for use with kde4.2 at the moment (from Aaron Seigo's blog). Will generally break alot of things.
I have the same problem and AFAIK there isn't a proper fix yet.
flack 2.0.6: menu-driven BASH script to easily tag FLAC files (AUR)
knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

I tested Kdemod 4.2 packages (from kdemod-testing repo) compilated with QT 4.5 and works fine.

I haven't experienced any systray icon corruption, with neither Qt 4.4 nor 4.5 (nvidia). Qt 4.5 allegedly breaks only some plasma applets (I'm using it without any problems), so you might try updating to it. There's a PKGBUILD in one of the topics.

for 64bit?

I'm using 64bit with no corruption using the intel driver, what card are you using as i think there can be problems with some settings in xorg.conf

Here's the PKGBUILD, I'm on i686, but it should work on x86_64.

4.5 also gives some speed increasments...

I am using a Geforce 8600 GT with the 180.22 driver.

I experience the corruption -- nVidia 8600, Arch64, etc. But I'm not freakin' out about it.

Small world, I too have a 8600 GT. Icon corruption is there but doesn't really bother me. AFAIK it is a very common problem and has to do with Qt, not a specific graphic driver or KDE.

Same here...nvidia 8600GT, and corrupted icons. I fussed about it a bit, but in the end, it's not that big a deal.

Thats not entierly true in my case. If I comment out the line:
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
In my xorg.conf, the problem is fixed. However... my graphics go out the window.
Anyway, its being really buggy, so I'm going to switch back to GNOME...

Didn't work on x86_64, it died when it tried to compile the ODBC. I tried removing the references to UnixODBC in the package but it still crapped out.

I don't have that in my xorg.conf file and still see the corruption. The corruption is not a huge deal, but
at time it gets so bad you can't even tell what is in the tray.

using nvidia 8800 ultra , i also had tray corruption.
using the pkgbuild from this thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64750 solved it for me (on x86_64).
kdm doesn't work using the new qt, but tray corruption is gone.

I tried building that package for my system (x86_64) but it always bombs out on the UnixODBC part.
Did you modify the pkgbuild at all to get it to work?

No it built fine without modification.

The kdm crash is fixed:

You can apply those patches and recompile kdebase-workspace.
It may also help to recompile qt-4.5 using the latest daily snapshot instead of the rc1 version:
ftp://ftp.trolltech.com/qt/snapshots .
