Java runtime/jdk

Hi,

There's a proprietary Java and its open source counterpart, right? Arch devs recommend the open source version, if I'm not mistaken. I've looked up Wiki, but I'm not sure how to deal with it. It used to be the  proprietary version on my computer; an application demanded an open source dependency; I allowed pacman to remove the conflicting proprietary Java-something, then some other apps stopped working.

What exactly have I to install to satisfy all Java-dependent packages? I understand that current Arch packages are built against open source version. Unfortunately, I don't know much about Java.

Re: Java runtime/jdk

I will; but a review for the benefit of a general user is still welcome smile .
