Hi all.
Has something changed in the recent version of Pidgin? Cause suddenly my danish keys: Ø Æ Å doesnt work in Pidgin, actually it seems my intire DANISH keyboard is a US/UK model in Pidgin, but only in Pidgin?
Everything works fine i consol/any term, or any other X app for that matter.
Can't seem to find any konfiguration in Pidgin for it??

Ehm, don't know what went wrong, but after a restart of Pidgin it works?
Problem solved I guess.
Anywho, while your reading this useless thread, could you recommend a textbased MSN messenger client? Shall be used in Awesome.
Best regards.

I noticed a similar problem yesterday, I ran setxkbmap dvorak and everything except pidgin was in dvorak -- pidign stayed on qwerty until I restarted it.

Same problem here with azerty keyboard. At each boot, pidgin thinks I'm using a qwerty keyboard and I need to restart it.

I've experienced this problem in firefox when using Gnome. A restart of firefox "solves" the problem.

I noticed this too - especially in Pidgin but also in Firefox. Restarting the application helped. For now I think I've solved it by letting hal and evdev manage my keyboard.
So instead of setting AutoAddDevices to False in xorg.conf, I've put hal in my DAEMONS array in rc.conf, copied /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi and changed "us" to "dk". As said I've experienced no problems since.
Also it seems I don't need neither xf86-input-mouse nor xf86-input-keyboard. I'm not sure on that, but I've deinstalled them and everything is fine.
Edit: Also, I no more need Option "XkbLayout" "dk" in xorg.conf. Probably I don't need most of it or any of it.

For textbased MSN i recommend Finch.
It's pidgin but with ncurses ui instead of gtk
there's no place like ~/

Arrgh! I will not use hotplugging.
In XMonad the problem does not exist, so I hope it has something to do with Gnome.

Plain Openbox for me - no GNOME.
