This is my first experience with ArchLinux. I´ve just installed ArchLinux with KDE but when the KDE login window appears, the keyboard and mouse don´t make any action. In fact I cannot change the terminal (with Alt+F2).
I´ve installed the KDE with:
pacman -Syu
pacman -S xorg
pacman -S kde
and finally I modified the /etc/inittab to initialize at level 5 and to use kdm.
Then after rebooting, I cannot do anything else. If I break (with Ctrl+C) before starting KDE, then there´s no console (although I have keyboard) and I cannot modify any file. And if I wait, the KDE is started and mouse and keyboard are off.
Any suggestion to restore the system?
Thank you in advance

Sounds like perhaps you need to install:
xf86-input-keyboard
xf86-input-mouse
xf86-input-evdev
See: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … n_Packages
Since you're initing kdm when you boot, you'll need to init to a different level. When in the grub boot menu, I believe you can do this by appending to the kernel line the init level you'd like to use...
EDIT: http://www.brunolinux.com/05-Configurin … vel-3.html -- haven't had to do this in a while, but that sounds about right.

Have you added HAL to the daemons list in your rc.conf ?

Thank you for your fast replies.
I already can init in level 3 in the grub boot menu.
However, the installation xf86-input-keyboard and others didn´t solve the problem. It looks like they were already installed.
I´ve had a look at the error messages and it´s shocking that there´s no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. As a result, the following message is logged in /var/log/kdm.log:
"Unable to locate/open config file"
The system uses a default configuration and I guess this is the root of the problem.
Do you know why I don´t have the xorg.conf file in my system? I´ve just installed my ArchLinux.
And no, I didn´t include anything in the DAEMONS.
Thank you in advance.

More recent xorg's should 'just work' without and xorg.conf, and if kdm is coming up then that probably isn't your problem. As shiinta points out, you'll need to start hal; the new xorg also has input hotplugging: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … quirements

Ok. Now it works after including hal in the list of daemons.
I'm a bit disappointed because the access to Internet is really slow. Perhaps it is a problem of the Konqueror or who knows. But I guess, that this is another story.
