cannot change console font

So I'm trying to use Terminus as my font on the linux console, but so far I haven't had any luck with /etc/rc.conf or setfont. Terminus is installed, and as far as I can tell everything else is working correctly. Here's the error message I get from setfont:

$ setfont -v ter-112n
Loading 256-char 6x12 font from file /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts/ter-112n.psf.gz
putfont: KDFONTOP: Invalid argument

Re: cannot change console font

Post your rc.conf please. I also have terminus set up as my console font, this is the relevant part from my rc.conf:

CONSOLEFONT="ter-v14b"

Re: cannot change console font

LOCALE="en_US.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
USEDIRECTISA="no"
TIMEZONE="America/Chicago"
KEYMAP="us"
CONSOLEFONT="ter-112n"
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

EDIT: I just tried it with ter-v14b and it worked, so it must be something about the font. What's a good variation of Terminus? What are the differences between all the variations?
