Hauppauge 1600 Remote Patch

Hello Arch Forums.

I need to use the ir-kbd-i2c driver to utilize the remote control for a Hauppauge 1600 PCI card, since lirc doesn't seem to like that remote very much.

According to this website: http://www.rtr.ca/hvr1600/ I'll need to patch the kernel to enable support for my particular remote and card.

I'm new to kernel-patching, and would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain what I need to do here.

I tried checking the wiki and googling for more info, but I feel like I might be over complicating the process.

My current kernel is 2.6.28
